Leaving A Legacy for Children

“Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from him.” Psalm 127:3(NLT)

Throughout God’s Word, He has shown us that it isn’t enough to simply talk about what and how we feel, there must be a demonstration of it. Many people say they love God, but their actions do not reveal this. Heavenly Father tells us in James 2:26(NLT), “Just as the body is dead without breath, so also faith is dead without good works.” As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we must back up our faith with actions that express His love. Leaving a legacy for children is a wonderful way to do this.

God tells us in Psalm 127:3 that children are a gift from Him. They are a reward for being obedient to follow His Word. As parents and as members of our families, we have the distinct privilege to be a blessing to the children in our families. James 5:16 tells us that the earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produce wonderful results. If we are dutiful to God and have faith in Him, our prayers are an invitation to Him to bless our families according to His divine Will and Plan.

This is very important for our children, because many of the children in the world today have never had anyone to pray for them. They don’t know God through the Lord Jesus Christ and haven’t been taught about Him. Not only do we have the distinct responsibility to tell the children in our family about the love of God through Jesus Christ when we have the opportunity, but we also have a responsibility to be a blessing to their lives in other ways.

Sometimes we are so busy with our own schedules and personal goals that we don’t take the time to think about the legacy of God’s love that we will leave. We don’t think about the opportunity we’ve been given to plant a seed that will continue to grow and flourish continually. This is the remarkable and glorious aspect of God’s love. When we give, share, and love through His love, it produces a harvest that is never ending.

We must appreciate the reality that nothing about our lives is random. We were placed in our families for God’s purpose. Whether they are our own children, or the children of relatives, we must appreciate they are gifts from God. They will continue our bloodlines, and we can help them can impact the world for God’s Kingdom in the future by leaving a legacy of His love and sowing into their lives.■
